Atem growled and bared his teeth as he watched his wife turn and storm away, but once she was out of site his face turned to sadness and hurt. She knew that Atem had always felt inferior to her because of their careers and to say that she would kick him out of “her” house hit below the belt. He pinched the bridge between his eyes before grapping his things and heading out the door without a word.

The day drug on and as much as Atem wanted to work to keep his mind off of things, it was nearly impossible now. After he left the office he started his walk home when he past a convinent store. He thought for a moment before walking inside, coming out with a case of his favorite alcoholic drink, which just so happened to be Seina’s as well. He hadn’t drank in ages except the occasional one with co workers, but he planned on getting drunk tonight and no body was going to stop him.

He opened the door to find it empty but he knew that his wife would be home as he saw her car outside. He sighed and shut the door behind him, throwing his briefcase on the floor and walking into the kitchen. He placed the drinks in the fridge before grabbing two for himself and walked into the living room and slumped down on the couch. He could hear footsteps coming down the stairs but he open his drink and downed about half of it before his wife entered the room.

Atem sat quietly as Seina started up a continuation of this mornings argument. He didn’t look at her as he took a few more drinks. She was starting to get even more upset until finally Atem turned towards her and grabbed his second drink from the table.

“Just drink this. It’s your favorite isn’t it? ” he said in a more sour tone than he meant, but his face reflected his true feelings rather than his voice, guilt.

Seina had worked from home that day, having her little brother Mokuba come over to help her out with some design projects for a new product. Her brother went back home not long before Atem arrived, and Seina sighed as she waited a while before heading downstairs to confront her lover. She didn’t want this misery of theirs to keep dragging on needlessly, so she was going to settle this once and for all.

She stepped into the living room, her nose wrinkling at the smell of alcohol. The tall young woman glared at her husband as she watched him drink what seemed like their favorite alcohol of choice. “So, are you just going to avoid me now? You can’t even give me an answer Atem and I’m tired of this shit…”

“Just drink this. It’s your favorite isn’t it?”

Seina blinked in surprise at his order, looking closely at his face. She was surprised to see that Atem actually looked guilty; guilty for ignoring her, guilty for how their relationship seemed to be falling apart. The look, a look she hadn’t seen on his face since the miscarriage, made her stop in her anger and rant.

Seina carefully looked at Atem before grabbing the bottle and sitting on the large couch he sat on, far enough away from him to give him his own space. She opened the bottle and took a large gulp, her nose wrinkling at the bitter taste but liking it. She soon finished the whole bottle.

Atem did nothing as he watched his wife take the bottle and down it. She didn’t say a word and neither did he. It was a strange feeling, being so close now but in complete silence. It was almost nice and even relaxing, but Atem was no where near as drunk as he wanted to be so he got up and went into the kitchen, grabbed 4 more drinks and walked back to the living room handing his wife another who gladly took it. He gulped. Her face was already slightly flustered as a hint of pink appeared on her cheeks. His eyes locked on her face, moving down her noses and then her lips, which were stained with the color of the beverage she was drinking. He gulped again.

After taking a few more drinks Atem sighed loudly and threw his head back against the couch, closing his eyes for only a moment before tilting his head towards his wife and locking eyes with hers. The drink was finally starting to get to him, which wasn’t a surprise because he hadn’t drank in ages. It was hitting him a lot sooner than normal, but he didn’t care. His mind soon lost themselves in Seina’s blue eyes as he thought about his guilt, his sorrow.

He stopped.

His eyes widened a bit as he thought. His guilt? His sorrow? No. That was wrong. Completely and utterly wrong. It was “their” guilt. “Their” sorrow. How could he have not seen that? All this time Atem thought only of himself but now, staring into the eyes of his wife he realized that he was never alone in this. He felt his body start to shake with anxiety.

“What have I done… Seina.” He breathed still staring at her.
