the great escape artist houdini was living in a time period where mysticism, fortune telling, ouija boards, seances and etc were becoming very common place and trendy. and he fucking hated it so much. so much that he would go to seances in disguise and make some bullshit off the wall shit like “my son died last year can you let me talk to him” and the seance person would be like ‘THIS IS YOUR SON HELLO FATHER’ then he’d rip off his disguise and be like YOU FRAUD I HAVE NO CHILDREN.
He died on Halloween night in detroit and as far as i know every year they hold seances on halloween trying to get in contact with his spirit. If seances work i bet his ghost is just pissed off and not responding out of raw spite.

I just want to make a warning post to my fellow Canadians, Americans, and Australians who are looking for part time jobs.
AVOID PUBLIC OUTREACH (btw just wanted to point out that background in the banner picture i painted that fucking room- Toronto) They also have companies in Australia and States.
For those that don’t know, public outreach is a company that works for charity. They represent some top notch charities such as Plan, CAMH (mental health), World vision, Ottawa humane society, Amnesty, UNHCR, Sick kids, MSF etc. On paper they sound like the dream job for students (flexible hours, 15 per hour (Canada) )
I’ve worked there for 3 years and if I’ve posted anything useful on this blog it’s this. I’ve seen the ins and outs of this company. From a fundraiser to senior manager. And let me just preface this by saying, as a fundraiser I’ve never been below target for all 3 years. As a manager my offices have made profit every single financial period (earning 30K+) last november. So this isn’t a post from a disgruntled employee but someone who had their dignity and employee rights violated.
Let’s list how fucked up this place is
1. Trainees- if you apply, you start as a trainee. Which means you have to get your donation goals with no to BS support from your managers and team leaders. Don’t get it? then you’re out.
2. They have three mediums. Streets, Doors and Malls. Streets is a mess. They have two senior managers managing the two street teams. One of the senior manager despite being fucking 30+ is a gossip whore. Lets call him “O”. I’ve worked “O” when i first started on Doors and Malls. The amount of shit he’s said behind my back to other managers such as “L” is such a drama queen” “See headspace is an issue”. I’m not even going to go into how inappropriate that is coming from MY direct manager. Even up to the point when I was leaving the company he was still spreading gossip about me and to me.
Doors as a medium is a fuck show. The managers there are by no means qualified to manage. They have a 20 year old who cares more about flirting with the senior manager than her own team. I’ve had past team mates in her office quit because she makes charity seem like a commission job without the commission. Abrasive and if she doesn’t like you or you don’t get results, she will bitch to higher up and next thing you know you’re gone.
Malls- When I worked in malls as a manager I would work more than the allotted 40 hours per week, yet my manager lets call her “S” would cut hours that I’ve billed in the week down. And the only time when I found out about it was on my pay. Her excuse “I didn’t see you work” I’ve brought this up to HR and was ignored. So for the month of January and May I was underpaid for two month
3. All the managers and senior managers are required to work more than 40 hours. When I got into the senior manager role I asked the general manager/director “If i work more than 40 can I bill it?” their response was “No, all my senior managers should have discretionary effort” Worked over time and was denied pay.
4. The new HR rep. Let’s call her “E”. When I quit this job last week I had a frank discussion with her on the lack of ethics in this company which represents CHARITY. To which she got incredibly defensive and blamed me. Her exact quote “Why are you looking at this from your side, its not the “L” Show”. Yes, there’s a business side, but IM the one thats not being paid, IM the one who had pay cut for no reason. My friend who is a manager in the company on his contract he was suppose to be paid 20/hr, and yet for the past year (he’s been in this position for close to a year) he was paid at 19/hr because his manager “O” decided to ignore the contract.
5. They represent charity yet the fundraisers are not trained on the charity they are suppose to represent which means false information is spread for the sake of getting results (Monthly donations). The upper management doesn’t give a fuck if you suffer from mental health issues. If you have mental health issues as a fundraiser and don’t get results for two weeks? You’re gone. A manager with mental health issues and fail to get results for two weeks? Demotion!
Honestly, they recently fired the director with no cause other than “no profit” when in fact the company did make a profit and the general manager refused to share the senior managers on the profit report. They were suppose to fire the director (who was applying for PR) in August but instead one day before he can file it (in June). It was a personal firing. His PR is now fucked.
They parade around saying “We have culture, supportive, Anti-Oppressive” when in fact its just all BS. If this was true they wouldn’t need to say this every month in their meetings.
Its a high school environment that sucks you in on superficial looks and will take away your private life. This post doesn’t even begin to cover the shit they do.
I filed a claim with the Ontario labor board but they don’t keep things private so I had to withdraw it. I’ve also reached out to news outlets and haven’t gotten any replies. So please (any Canadians, Americans) if you know any outlets that I can reach out to please let me know.
im a whole entire 21 year old woman and i just drove a toddler-sized electric jeep covered in pictures of frozen characters down a street so i could park it in a garage. i couldnt fit in the seats so i sat on the trunk of the mini vehicle. im not currently wearing contact lenses or glasses so i couldnt actually see anything. i was squinting and grimacing the entire time in an effort to focus on not crashing and dying. let it go was blasting through the speakers
