This is my friend TJ, wearing a costume she made for Halloween, 1977.  She was 16 at the time.

Now, keep in mind: there was no internet to search for images.  She could not have rented and paused the movie, because it wasn’t released on video until 1982.  No, TJ just went to the movie a bunch of times, took notes with a flashlight, drew a bunch of sketches, and put this together.

In 19-fucking-77.  So let’s bury this bullshit about how women didn’t grow up on Star Wars.

this fandom is in desperate need of some new content

We are. Look at us. We’re kicking our feed troughs and chewing on our bedding straw, it’s that bad.

I mean yeah, but I’m sure that they are working hard to get out new content. All we can do is be patient!

Here’s the thing with internet fandoms: they don’t have to stay strong. They don’t have to stay active. And if there isn’t new content to feed them, people leave.

Shit, I’m finding myself doing it: I’ve started watching Buzzfeed Unsolved and my fandom interest is shifting. From the amount of Voltron, Detroit Become Human, Buzzfeed Unsolved, and various other fandom content I can’t even identify that has begun floating across my dash, that is happening to many other fanders, too. And I can’t even blame people for it, either. The wait between videos has gotten longer every time, and there hasn’t been much word on when we might expect the wait to end. Nor has there been any indication that, after the newest video, we’ll have anything other than another 3-4 month wait.

I don’t say this as someone who thinks Thomas shouldn’t take his time or do what he wants to do. I say this as someone who is very familiar with fandom life and culture, who has seen this happen time and time again in other fandoms. (Also, as someone who understands that if the Sides are going to be the thrust of Thomas’s merchandise and revenue-making, then a healthy, active fandom is a critical thing to maintain.)

I’m not saying any of this as a way to stir discourse or to say that Thomas should or shouldn’t do exactly what he wants. I’m just giving my honest assessment of the fandom in its current state, which is, unfortunately, fracturing and drifting.

I can just hope that no one drifts too far before the new content arrives to revitalize things.

Very well put, LJ

This is actually such an amazingly motivational post because it explains visually exactly what art block is. Do you know what art block is?

Art block is that moment when you realise your skills could be so much more then they currently are. It frustrates you to draw because you can finally see your drawings differently. You can see where they can be better and you want them to be better.
It’s not a matter of “I can’t draw today”, it’s a matter of “I imagined this would turn out so much better” and “there’s something missing, I just know it. What technique did I miss.”
You’ve got past that temporary phase of analysing and researching and now you’re able to incorporate it in your own work, you just need to figure out how, and when you get past that art block. Well, you’ll see the improvement before you know it. Slowly, but it’s there. And once you get comfortable with using those new skills you’ll move on and start analysing again, and you’ll see where you can improve.

Stay experimental and open to learn, it’s the quickest way to get over art block.

((Some inspiration to all the lovelies struggling with an art block right now~))
