The royal family employs no bodyguards. A would-be assassin discovers why.
“Please?” the crown prince said hopefully.
The assassin hesitated. “I’m not sure I’m comfortable with this.”
“Come on, you’re doing great. Just one stab, it’ll be easy-peasy.” The prince spread his arms wide, leaving his throat and chest vulnerable.
“Look, I’m going to level with you,” the assassin said. “I took this contract on the assumption that you were a bad dude. Usually when a country goes bankrupt this fast, it’s because whoever’s in charge is raiding the treasury. But once I infiltrated the guard, I actually had to spend time around you, and you’re just.” The assassin threw her hands up in disgust. “You’re a really nice person! There’s no getting around it! So I’m not super on board with murdering you now. Nothing personal.”
“But if you don’t, my sisters won’t get the life insurance payout, and the country will be in debt for the next century!”
“I’m pretty sure arranging for your own assassination is insurance fraud.”
“Your whole job is to commit murder,” the prince said, “and now you’re worried about a little insurance fraud?”
The assassin pinched the bridge of her nose. “Okay, let’s back up and think about this rationally. Have you considered faking your own death?”
This was not what I was expecting, and it is glorious.
“I’m pretty sure arranging for your own assassination is insurance fraud” is the best sentence I have ever read in my life
I was thinking the other day about the origin of life and how it is scientifically impossible for life to spring forth from an inanimate object. It simply cannot occur and has not recorded to have occurred anytime ever. This is of course despite years of study to try to prove those that believe in the Creator wrong. Extensive work on amino-acids has even recently been touted as building blocks of life and something that could be construed as DNA, but there is no experiment revealing life and there is always tons of excuses, caveats and wiggle words as to why the scientists maybe just wrong.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg of complexity required. Even if life could spring from nothing (which it can’t)…then the life that was accidentally created by unknown means would have to be kick started sufficiently complex to have the genetic make up to reproduce. Otherwise the life that accidentally occurred would be pointless. It would live and then die without reproduction or offspring, much like the proverbial tree falling in forest with no one to hear. The new life form would exist and then cease to exist. So just life showing up accidentally in a rock or puddle of mud takes more than a lightning strike it must have complexity.
Keep these stunning facts in mind. Even seemingly simple E. coli bacterium has 639,221 4,377 base pairs and 4,377 genes. Not so simple. There is no such thing as a simple cell.
Bottom line – Reproduction is the key to evolution without the very first cell miraculously gaining life and the ability to reproduce simultaneously then life through evolution is impossible. Creation is the only reasonable alternative.
