Reblog to save a life
Note from a graphic designer who has to fix this shit all day: rich black is prettier sure but for the love of the gods don’t use it for text if it’s going on newsprint. If its anything other than solid black it will bleed out and become unreadable.
Half my job is fixing this mistake all day from people who really really should know better. And now you know!
Seriously, how does this even work? How is regular black brighter than black + other colors?
That’s because normal black isn’t saturated. And adding all the other colours makes it more saturated, and therefore, brighter. It’s a weird colour theory thing.
But it’s on a computer. Why can’t the computer automatically go to the dark black when we have it on 100% black?
Because that isn’t how computers work. A fully saturated black is like a fully saturated yellow. It’s fully saturated, but it’s still light, and dull. But adding another colour, like another shade of yellow can make the colour look brighter.
