fangirltothefullest:

I don’t think we give the first Sanders Sides video enough credit. Not only does it have a LOT of cool things we don’t see in later videos- Roman with a deeper voice roasting Thomas so openly, Logan smiling so much, Patton sipping the tea and understanding that meme, THIS face:

But there’s an interesting bit of dialogue in there that makes a very interesting point. It references Thomas’s standing on relationships but I think it applies to everything else as well:

Logan: You tend to overthink things, rule out possibilities with logic. Dream up obstacles with each new connection you make.

Thomas: That’s when the Anxiety kicks in

Then later Roman says: “Wouldn’t want to be our own villain would we?”

There’s a lot I could unpack here but as this is the first video and Virgil has yet to make an appearance I think it’s important to remember that without Anxiety fretting over these things, Logan is overthinking and doing the ruling out of romantic possibilities without Virgil and Roman is dreaming up obstacles as he is the dreamer.

Anxiety also literally became his own villain, which I think is one of the reasons Roman disliked him at first. The Prince would never consider that.

Anxiety is Thomas’s self preservation in a lot of ways. It’s possible that when Logan’s overthinking and Roman’s dreaming up obstacles and Patton is left with all those negative feelings, that Virgil steps up and stops them from going down those negative paths before they can happen. Don’t dream up false romances you’ll only disappoint yourself. Stop thinking of possibilities altogether so you can’t be hurt by ruling them out. Protect yourself by being cautious.

I don’t know, those lines just really stand out to me.
