How? Is he real?

Simple

He isn’t

it is possible that the sunny, lovable persona we know as thomas sanders is simply a character played to entertain the audience, and the real thomas sanders is a completely different person, thus, thomas sanders, as we know him, doesn’t exist. but that concept is terrifying and i don’t like to think about it.

How about

No.

I don’t often follow up on any of these posts, but we all comment about how we forget that the sides are Thomas. They feel real, and like you could go find them at any given time, just in Thomas’ house. Is it all that far of a stretch to believe ‘Thomas’ is a projection of what Thomas wants us to believe? Is it too far to believe that there are three versions of Thomas, only two of which we’re privy to? The video Thomas, the social Thomas, and the real, private Thomas?

I personally don’t like to believe that of anyone without adequate evidence, but it is fairly feasible for anyone in the social media spheres. Everyone has parts of themselves that they’ve hidden.

Funny that that is the topic of one of the major story arcs that we’re experiencing. Funny that one major part of Thomas’ life that is notable enough to warrant a side, is deceit.

Okay… wasn’t gonna chime in but I’m gonna.

Sure, it is possible that the version of Thomas that we see is his stage Thomas persona. I mean everybody who is in front of people act different than they do when they’re off stage. But I think we also have to look at the sides not in the same manner because of the fact that Thomas has said that Thomas in the Sanders Sides series is not him. It is a characterized version of himself. So yes while Deceit is a side of that Thomas, I don’t think that necessarily means that he is a side of the actual Thomas. But let’s say he is.

Even if Deceit was, he’s a hyper focused glimpse at what someone would be like if all they did was lie. Even about the most mundane things. All the sides are if you think about it.

Logan is how Thomas would be if he solely focused on learning and facts and keeping his emotions out of his decisions.

Roman is how Thomas would be if he did nothing but perform in plays and movies and such, throwing caution to the wind and logic out the window.

Patton is how Thomas would be if he gave in to his emotions, having them make every decision for him instead of considering better options and thinking logically about certain situations or more creative ways to look at the world.

Virgil is how Thomas would be if he second guessed every single thing in his life and stayed indoors all the time because it’s just safer in there. He wouldn’t wonder how things worked, know how his own emotions worked or be creative at all. Everything is too dangerous.

Thomas is his own person. He is a combination of all the sides we know and those we’ve yet to meet. The perfect balance of Logan, Roman, Patton, Virgil, Deceit, and those dark sides not revealed give us our Thomas. The dork who laughs himself out of frame, the person who accepts all of us no matter what our differences are, the one who tries so hard to see all the creations his fans have made because he loves us so much.

So in conclusion, does Thomas put on a stage persona? Sure. Is that any less real than the real Thomas? No. It takes energy to be an entertainer and I think Thomas is one of the most genuine people out there and I will stand by the belief that on or off the stage, Thomas is who he shows: a talented actor, fantastic singer, amazing friend to his friends, and just an all around good fellow.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. 😊
