Greetings! The name is Time Lizzy, or Time as my friends call me. They/Them pronouns. I love to try new things, draw, sing, dance, garden, and I do some witchcraft in my free time. I'm a Hetalia role playing partner if you guys are interested.
There’s something intensely unhealthy going on when parents discourage age-appropriate independence. A 13 year old should probably be allowed to go see a film with their friends most of the time. A 16 year old should probably be allowed to drive/ride a bus/bike to a friend’s house most of the time. An 18 year old should probably be allowed to travel overnight with their friends most of the time. A 20+ year old should be allowed to come and go as they please, with some common-sense “Let’s talk this ‘move to Finland’ plan of your over before you follow through on it” exceptions.
Parents should want their children to enjoy going out and doing things on their own and with their friends. They should be delighted that their child wants to have a life of their own. A rich, fulfilling life outside the home and distinct from parents and family is important, and parents should want their child to have that.
i agree to a certain extent but this is also very white
Uh what kind of parents did OP have?
If I had my 20 year old child was living with me, they wouldn’t get to ‘come and go as they please’. Not because I want to police their activity, but because it’s just common courtesy and a safety issue? And it’s my gd house? If they want to leave whenever they can get their own place – I’m not about to have my kid scaring the shit out of me by coming home at 3 am with no warning.
Also, did you forget that some 18 year olds are still in high school? Bullshit they’re going to go on overnight trips with their friends when they’re not even really grown up yet.
Does anyone read with like… good faith anymore? I was hoping that the context would make it clear that I was saying “A 21 year old living at home should be able to say ‘By the way, Tyler invited me and Alex to go on a camping trip in two weeks, and I said I’d go. I’ve got some money saved, so I can get whatever gear I need.”
Because like… it was followed up by a comment about moving out of the country on a whim. I could understand this criticism if I’d presented “come and go as they please” without any context, or if I’d presented it in the context of “come home from a party at 4:30 AM.” But I didn’t. I gave context that indicated that I meant travel.
I had (fruitlessly) hoped that “should probably/most of the time” would prevent this, but if an 18 year old is trustworthy, responsible, dependable, makes good choices, doesn’t get into trouble, etc. then that 18 year can probably be trusted to stay with an equally-responsible friend for a single night away from the watchful night of their parents. I’m not talking about an 18 year old HS senior going to Japan for two weeks. I’m talking about a mature, responsible 18 year old saying “Hey, Hayden and I managed to save $400 each! We really want to go to this all-ages concert in The City, but it won’t get out until after midnight, and we wouldn’t be home until probably 2:00 AM. We were thinking about using the extra money to get a double-occupancy at the Super 8, then getting up and coming home tomorrow” and being allowed to, because they’ve consistently shown that they are the kind of young person who can successfully navigate that situation.
Also, “It’s my house” is garbage abuser reasoning. “I make the rules because you would be homeless and starving without me!” is what it boils down to. You know what I won’t fight you on? The implicit “It is thoughtless and discourteous for anyone to think that it’s Normal and Okay to just come home at 3:00 AM, potentially waking people up or frightening them.” Because it is thoughtless and discourteous. Any group of people in a shared living arrangement should have some ground rules about that, because it’s a matter of courtesy and respect. Making it a matter of authority (which is what you’ve done by saying “my house, my rules”) cheapens it and teaches the wrong lesson.
User: Parents should want children to develop healthfully and gain independence
Some loser: white people tho
Healthy relationships with your parents are white now???? So is that implying that poc parent/kid relationships are supposed to be??? Not healthy?
Either way that’s racist
I’m not white and my mother does what op is saying. Y’all just salty about helicopter/dependant parents.
Well, according to Ezekiel 1 they might look something like this…
According to Daniel 10 something like this…
According to Isaiah 6…
In Ezekiel 10…
Again in Ezekiel 10…
Basically, when the people writing Scripture tried to describe what they saw when they saw an angel… they run into the end of their imagination… they can never quite seem to fully explain it because they had trouble even comprehending what they saw, let alone being able to describe it to someone else.
Yeah, that’s usually how people responded to seeing them in the Bible…
There’s a good reason why angels’ standard greeting is ‘Do not be afraid’.
I used to listen to this radio show and one thing I remember because it was so funny was a Christmas special where an angel showed up to tell the shepherds about the birth of Christ. The conversations went:
Angel: “FEAR NOT.”
Shepherds: *screaming*
Angel: “I SAID FEAR NOT.”
Shepherds: *screaming LOUDER*
Angel: “WHAT PART OF FEAR NOT ARE YOU NOT UNDERSTANDING?”
So demons are fallen angels but they don’t look scary because they’re fallen, that’s just what all angels look like…
Maybe that’s why so many Christians see visions of Saints or the Virgin Mary instead…like Jesus is all…no, no see being human made me realize sending Angels might not be the best idea. I don’t know if humans can handle this. So I’m gonna just send mom
Jesus: It’s either Mom or the thousand eyed flaming wheel, Dad, do you really think the humans are gonna be chill with that when they’re terrified of spiders already?
God: Hey now, some of those spiders eat birds.
Jesus: …Dad…
God: …To be fair, Australian wildlife was my dark creation phase.
Okay, here’s Darkiplier SFW alphabet. Also, I didn’t know when Dark’s birthday really was, so I just picked one. So, I apologize if it’s wrong.
A – AU (Random AU here, so like domestic, prince, vampire, etc.)
*Swapped AU*
In this AU, Dark is sweet and soft. He’s pretty shy and very nervous about his mean and rude boss, Wilford. He’s generally a good guy in this AU. Most of the other egos’ tend to poke fun at him.
B – Best Friend (what would they be like as a best friend? how would the friendship start?)
Well, it would take a while to become best friends with Dark. Although, once you do your guys’ friendship is mostly just a comfortable mood between you two. Your both comfortable with each other and Dark also lets you get away with a few things that he would usually yell at the person about. He lets you see him when he’s vulnerable and everything. He won’t say it, but he cares about you.
