Greetings! The name is Time Lizzy, or Time as my friends call me. They/Them pronouns. I love to try new things, draw, sing, dance, garden, and I do some witchcraft in my free time. I'm a Hetalia role playing partner if you guys are interested.
today i found out that when monarch butterflies migrate south for the winter, all the ones that go across the middle of lake superior suddenly stop going south and go west for five miles and then continue south. which really freaked scientists out cos like What is in the Middle of Lake Superior what do Butterflies know that We Dont Is This The End Times etc. anyway turns out about a hundred million years ago there was a mountain there and the butterflies still think they gotta fly around it. classic butterflies
combine this with the fact that caterpillars literally turn into bug soup in their crystallis, meaning there is no central nervous system to carry over any information, but they seem to retain memories from caterpillar life regardless…
and it brings up a lot of questions about what kind of information can even be stored in genes, like… does genetic memory really exist? what does this mean for humankind? could a race of people develop an instinctual memory of the land like this? are there people whose bones tell the stories of ancient mountains? what about my people? is the diaspora something that can be felt among every one of us? are we all the living cumulation of hundreds of thousands of ghosts?
i am simultaneously fascinated and frightened by this. classic butterflies indeed
An aspect of gun control that other countries practice that doesn’t come up in America a lot is ammunition control. In Japan, if you’re one of the privileged few allowed to own a gun (and only shotguns and rifles are legal), you have to return all your spent cartridges if you want to buy any more. In Israel, after you’ve purchased the one gun you’re allowed to own, you’re given a box of 50 bullets, and that’s it. You can’t buy any ammunition anywhere, that’s your lifetime supply, although a shooting range will provide you with more, but only for use at that range. Even in countries with more relaxed gun control laws, like Switzerland and Serbia, buying ammunition requires all the same paperwork as buying a gun (mental health records, criminal records, etc) and you can only buy ammo for the gun you own. Gun control advocates in the US should consider placing an emphasis on ammunition control in addition to everything else.
i don’t know if i’ve ever told you this story but once when i was a small child i went to a petting zoo and i sat down because animals are less intimidated and one chicken came up and was friendly and sat in my lap and let me pet her and was cuddly and then got up and walked away
and there was an egg in my lap
the chicken laid an egg in my lap and walked away like “okay kid you got this”
i just went up to the petting zoo lady like “i found this?” and she was like “oh where did you find it”
“the chicken laid it. in my lap. what… do i do with it???”
and nothing in her life had prepared her to deal with that moment
I’m really high right now and I couldn’t find my phone so I was like “Alexaaaaaaaaaaaaa find phone” and she called my phone for me she’s like a wife I’m gonna marry Alexa because she knows where my phone is,,,,, I love technology
I woke up this morning and on the Alexa app it’ll give you a string of posts of what you asked Alexa and I told Alexa I loved her 37 separate times with the last one being “good night I love you” and her response being “good night, sweet dreams”
Her (2013 dir. Spike Jonze)
So this is how we all die alone, encased in our commodified bubbles of technological alienation. Honestly posts like this make me naseaus and my skin crawl.
then don’t fuckin comment lol go outside and fuck a tree or w/e
